What exactly does Achieve Club do for people like Richie? How long have you been doing this for?
The team Achieve Skinnergate racing aims to provide a pathway for young riders to give them the skills needed to eventually look to make cycling a potential career. In addition to a focus on youth development the team also has a grassroots racing team and a elite team so that all bases are covered for the younger riders and there is a clear pathway of progression for them to aspire towards. They also have the benefit of advice from the elite riders within the team who have all been in their position previously.
The team was established in 2012 and is now ranked 11th in the UK with sponsorship support from a range of local, national and international companies. We have excellent social media coverage and promote the riders exploits through those streams and also through our website, www.achievecyclecoaching.co.uk
The team also aim to offer support to these riders and help with equipment and expenses if they require it.
How do those that you train benefit from the club?
We offer coaching to each rider individually if they require it, a clear team environment and ethos, a link to a number of cycling brands that can provide equipment, we also have a monthly structured team ride and multiple training camps over the course of the year.
You've been working with Richie for some time now. How do you feel now that he is an Olympic Development Apprentice? Is he ready for this program do you think
Yes I think he is 100% ready, he’s been within the British Cycling system for sometime and he his quite experienced, he is also a very professional athlete to deal with considering his age, and this will stand him in good stead for the programme
What do you think are the chances of him competing in the Olympics eventually?
I think providing Richie continues with his cycling at the same level of commitment and application he shows now, there is absolutely no reason we won’t one day see him in the Olympics.
