I made a couple changes over the winter that has put me in good stead for the summer, I added a couple of 5hr plus endurance rides a month to give me a bit more volume for the Elite road series later in the year.
The biggest change was racing at then end of Jan start of Feb rather than March, starting racing early meant I had the speed for when I needed it in March and April. This is something I’ll continue next year as it really worked for me.
I was also a bit more careful with my diet which meant I lost a couple of kilos compared to last year which is always a good thing.
Highlights so far this season?
So far I’m really happy with how my season has gone, getting a result in an Elite Kermesse in Belgium was a good progression. Going into the Hub Architectural 2-day I knew I had really good form and to take the overall gave me a lot of confidence going into the Tour of the Reservoir.
The main goal at the Res was to get round a race thats known as one of the hardest races on the calendar. To finish 42nd overall as a minor victory on my behalf, all be in not very spectacular.
Goals for the remainder of the season?
Looking towards the May and June, there is the Richmond RR and Four Dales RR that I’d like to target as results. Were also putting a team into the Beaumont Trophy UCI 1.2 which I’d obviously like to peak to have a good ride. Moving later into the summer I’ll be looking to be consistent and get as close as I can to getting my Elite Licence with that being the year goal.
Three most important items in my kit bag?
1. Giro Empires. I’m lucky to have a lot of support regarding my kit and I’ve found my Empires are a perfect fit, I fall in love every time I race in them.
2. I alway check I’ve packed my Gabba rainproof. Its my go to kit for wet or cold weather, plus it looks good which always helps.
3. I always race in gloves and make sure I’ve got a couple of pairs of Giro Mitts and longer gloves in my bag for if its wet or cold.
