Yes I changed my off season training to prepare better. I had much more rest before starting my training. Then I did a big block of endurance training before working on my strength and power then final work on speed just before the season began. This worked well for me along side with resting more than 2013. I also knew I would have to step up the training as the races were longer and a higher level than junior races.
2. What were your highlights?
One of my highlights was probably finishing 3rd at the Drummond trophy in Scotland, this race had some big uk pro names. Another highlight will be finishing midfield in the Rutland Melton cicle Classic UCI 1.2 as my first year u23 and first time riding at that level of race. Finally achieving my goal of gaining my Elite license.
3. How did you find the step up in level of competition this year from national B to national A?
I found it challenging but enjoyable, I had never finished a national B senior road race as a junior but I trained harder and finished my first one in my first race. Then I went to Belgium for a weekend in preparation for national A level racing. I enjoyed racing over there and finished well on both days in high speed races with fields of 200 plus riders each day which was a completely new experience for me. After that I was in good form and rode well at the next couple of national A races I did including a UCI 1.2.
4. Can you pinpoint anything specifically that has made a difference?
There are several major things that have made a difference. First is the amount of training I have done over the winter and during the season compared to 2013. Secondly the high level of races early on in the season set me up well for the season, and finally the amount of rest I have been able to have after training and races thanks to parents for being so supportive, allowing me to concentrate wholly on cycling.
5. What are your main goals for 2015?
My goals are to compete at national A level and get top 20s in them, also do some racing abroad to gain more experience and to keep my elite license.
6. Are you going to make any changes to the way you prepare for the 2015 season?
The only changes I'm going to make is to add more structure to my training and to work more on my weaknesses as well as my strengths. I will be strict with my training and also my diet to get the most out of training as possible
