Today saw the Achieve-Skinnergate Racing Team take on the North East Divisional Championships. A strong team headed up into a grey and wet Northumberland eager to make up for a slightly disappointing criterium on Friday.
The course was a rolling 11 mile circuit on tough roads with some corners and hills that would make for attacking racing. For the first few of the seven laps Achieve-Skinnergate riders were well represented until a strong duo of Adam Martin and Simon Baxter finally got away.
Not panicking, the team rode strongly and in conjunction with the Velo29-Blackhawk team kept the move under control, with fine team performances especially by Jake Kriehn and Matty Cooper who sacrificed their chances for those of the team. With two laps to go the race was back together again and it was anyone's race.
Attack after attack followed, however with 800m to go yet again it was all back together. A slight drop in pace however was all the invitation Tom Timothy needed and he went for the line. With a strong effort he made it there just in front of his teammate Jack Rees who led the bunch in for second place.
A perfect team performance and this was reflected in the results, with Achieve-Skinnergate taking the top two spots on the podium. A special thanks must also go to the team's sponsors in Skinnergate Cycles providing FOCUS bicycles and ARC Carbon Wheels for giving the riders the tools they needed for these great results.
